Hardwood Flooring FAQs & Pro Tips
A Few Pro Tips:
- If you have a high-traffic house with growing & active kids or pets, avoid “soft” hardwood floors such as Pine, Cedar, Cherry, Walnut, or Bamboo. Although very beautiful, these wood species often dent easily.
- Worried about nicks, scratches, or dents that can appear on your hardwood floor? Choose a wood species with a strong grain pattern such as Red Oak or Hickory. These species have strong graining that camouflages gradual wear.
- If living on or near a hillside or if your house’s subfloor is likely to have a high moisture content, then Engineered Hardwood Floors may be a recommended flooring product. However, if you have a basement, you may want to consider Waterproof Flooring, such as LVT/LVP/SPC, for a resilient, long-lasting floor.
- If you wish to reside in your home while installing new flooring, choosing a Prefinished Hardwood Floor, either Solid or Engineered, is highly recommended. This flooring type will minimize the production of dust & fumes during installation.
- A tip for design planning: One way to get a cohesive flow throughout the house is to choose wall colors that best enhance & contrast the tone of your hardwood finish. For instance, wood with a dark finish stands out against light wall colors, & light wood stands out against darker wall colors. To get a high contrast with a medium-toned wood finish, keep the wall color light & soft.
